Almost 10 years to the original release of this magnificent album, that crosses all musical barriers, from reggae to today's reggaeton, soul, funk, jazz, even hip-hop, this Baby Bush album by Degree was too far ahead of its time. With this lp, Degree was innovative and creative, while keeping a streetwise feel and an ear to the ghetto rhythms going on at both sides of the Atlantic. This album should have been received as a true musical groundbreaking album that stood up and defied all otherwise banal musical wannabes that did garner much more sales and airplay that this Degree release never received. I am at odds as to why VP Records and the labels distributors did not go balls to the walls for this masterpiece. The track featuring a peformance by Maxi Priest, who had hit in the U.S., should have garnered both R & B and rhythmic pop radio airplay. This is a sad example of what is wrong with the state of music today: how does a poppin' album like this fall by the wayside, not ever getting its rightful due? Degree worked hard as hell on this lp, and obviously had a good time doing it, but the label and those distributors dropped the ball on this one...leaving for me to find a used copy of the album yesterday for pennies in Los Angeles thrift store. Something about te label---there was no jacket---caught my attention, so I bought it, and I am sooooo glad I did. I have not been able to stop playing this damn piece of hot vinyl. My hats off to Degree, it is hard to find albums where every track is a potential hit, with no filler whatsoever. For those that do not have this album or CD, get it as fast as you can, I can personally give you a triple guarantee that you will be more than pleased. Be sure to pull back the rug when you start to play Bush Baby because you will be doing some serious dancing---whether you like it or not, these infectous beats with have your body involuntarily moving and grooving in no time flat.
